What is Biodose?

Biodose is the World's first Total Medication Management System (ToMM), the only system capable of dealing with solid oral and liquid medications. Unlike outmoded Monitored Dosage Systems (MDS) Biodose facilitates accurate dispensing of liquid medications, giving the Pharmacist full control of dosage and administration from preparation to consumption.

Biodose uses a Tray and Pod system to hold drugs the system is unique because it is sealed by the Pharmacist using a tamper-evident sealing system, removing the possibility of adulteration between dispensing and patient consumption. The Biodose Software makes dispensing and recording of information easy; all patient packs are marked with the patients name, photographs (if required), date, time of day and individual drug details.

The ability to incorporate accurately titrated liquid medicines which can be added using a Biodose Stepper Pipette, ensures accurate record keeping and monitoring of drug administration. Each individual medicine Pod can be also be used to take the drugs contained, removing the need for medicine cups or spoons. The Biodose system can produce MARS Charts and Patient Information Sheets, providing the complete solution for medication management in Care Homes and in the Domiciliary Care.

The complete Biodose system contains Patient Packs, Trays, medicine Pods, Seals, Biodose Software, a Sealing Unit and Stepper Pipette & Transfer Container. Each Tray holds 28-individually sealed tamper-evident medicine Pods. A range of accessories are available for Biodose to assist the Community Pharmacist.

With MRSA being an important issue in Care Homes and for patients at risk at home, the incorporation of BioCote into Biodose Pods, provides built-in protection against MRSA.

Biodose in the Pharmacy

Recording information: Pharmacists start by adding new patient information to the Biodose software. The current drug regime can then be added using "drag and drop" style. Patient details, pharmacy name, day, date, time of day along with multiple drug names are automatically printed on each individual pod and patient information including photographs can be printed.

Dispensing: Drugs (solids and/or liquids) are dispensed into the 28-pods contained within the trays. Liquids can be titrated accurately using the Biodose Stepper Pipette, with a range of nozzles for dealing with different liquid viscosities.

Printing, Sealing & Assembly: The tray film is now printed along with an option of printing a MARS Chart / Patient Information Sheet. The sheet tray film is placed on top of the previously filled tray and placed together in the sealing unit. Pressing a single button instantly seals every pod, ready for use. The sealed tray is now placed into a patient pack ready for despatch. (Storage options are available from Biodose).
