BIODOSE INTELLIGENT PACKAGING TAKES PHARMACIES FROM STENGTH TO STRENGTH

Market leading hub pharmacies Medication Delivery Services, TOMMS and high street pharmacy HBS are enjoying exponential growth and an impressive list of new clients, after adopting Protomed's Biodose® total medication management system.

Medication Delivery Services is on target to attracting 60 care home customers in just 12 months. "We wanted to offer our customers the best medication management system available to complement our high level of service," says Jane Wenyon, Medication Delivery Services' director. "For us, Biodose is a unique solution accommodating for the first time ever, tablets, liquids and creams. The system has played a key role in our success so far, particularly in light of the new, stricter CQC registration standards. Biodose allows our care home to see at a glance how medication should be administered so that it is used as directed by the prescriber."

Nick Hind, Managing Director of TOMMS Pharmacy – the first UK pharmacy to offer Biodose, spotted the potential of the monitored dosage system back in March 2009, introducing a purpose-built Biodose hub to service its care provider clients. "Biodose offered the best solution to aid compliance and reduce error, and we soon identified the huge potential for growth by adopting this innovative system. We are now reaping the commercial benefits, with plans to introduce new Biodose hubs throughout the UK in response to the rising demand from care providers."

Salim Habib, development director of HBS pharmacy has enjoyed similar success on the high street since the pharmacy opened its doors in 2009. With their community pharmacies currently offering Biodose, Salim plans to expand the chain to 15 branches by April of next year to further service their care home customers.

"Pharmacists who are able to offer customers a complete compliance solution like Biodose, are ideally placed to set themselves apart from competitors," says Norman Niven, Protomed's CEO. "Medication Delivery, Tomms and HBS are three shining examples of pharmacies experiencing unrivalled success, by offering their care home customers the tools they need to keep and improve their CQC star rating."

"The increased uptake of Biodose coincides with tough new CQC registration system brought into force in April of this year," continues Niven. "Standards of quality and safety are being re-assessed in adult social care, resulting in 34 care homes being forced into closure over the past year alone.[1] With drug compliance monitoring widely considered the most important factor to adhere to, care homes are increasingly turning to pharmacists and systems like Biodose for help in managing medication more effectively."
