Biodose Connect™ by Vaica will showcase its potential cost savings to the Social Care sector at ADASS Care Apps Showcase on 7 March 2017. Taking place at The Birmingham Conference and Events Centre, the Event will provide a platform to demonstrate how the innovative, technology-enabled care device can save in excess of £1 million1 by supporting independent living.
There are almost 1 in 8 older people living with some level of unmet need and the number of people aged 65 and over not receiving the care they need has risen 17% in the past year to 1.2 million2. In 2015/16, two of the largest national homecare providers left the local authority market3 and in the same period, 59 councils reported that at least one homecare provider had elected to stop providing services to local authority clients4. With a £1 billion shortfall for adult Social Care in 2015/165 and with spending set to fall by over 8% between 2016 and 20206, the pressure on finite resources is set to increase.
Care-enabled technology can play a vital role in helping social care providers improve efficiencies, streamline processes and enhance the quality of care that a patient receives. As well as improving the delivery of care, technology can also help patients to take their medicines as prescribed and live independently in their own homes. The overall effect is reduced pressure on social care and the NHS through cost savings and diverting the demand on services.
Ian Pearce, Managing Director of Protomed, the distributors of Biodose Connect™, said, “As a specialist in medication adherence, we strongly advocate the role of technology in supporting the Care sector. With its clever reminder systems and real-time adherence monitoring capabilities, the pioneering Biodose Connect ™technology is designed to support those with long-term conditions to take the right medicines, at the right time. Our aim is to assist the Care sector in keeping patients independent and healthy and subsequently, reduce both the human and financial costs associated to medication non-adherence”.
