How It Works
Until now, Monitored Dosage Systems have only been capable of handling basic administration of solid oral medicines.
Biodose, the world's first Total Medication Management System (ToMM), allows for the first time ever, the ability to dispense and monitor liquid and solid oral medications together.
Total Medication Management gives pharmacists full control over the way drugs are dispensed, in a tamper-evident sealed unit, with built-in MRSA protection. Within the care home sector or domiciliary care, Biodose provides the ultimate way of monitoring drug usage. The Biodose system includes patented pod & tray dispensers, sealers, alarmed cabinets, trolleys, mini-packs for community use and pharmacy software.
Biodose System
The Biodose Total Medication Management System (ToMM) system consists of:
- Biodose software for recording information
- Individually sealable & removable medicine pods with a 28-pod tray
- Tray film used to cover trays and seal each individual pod
- Fully customised Patient Packs (containing one or two trays)
- A heat sealing unit & range of accessories are also available
In the pharmacy
Recording information:
Pharmacists start by adding new patient information to the Biodose software. The current drug regime can then be added
using "drag and drop" style. Patient details, pharmacy name, day, date, time of day along with multiple drug names are
automatically printed on each individual pod and patient information including photographs can be printed.
Dispensing:
Drugs (solids and /or liquids) are dispensed into the 28-pods contained within the trays. Liquids can be titrated
accurately using the Biodose Stepper Pipette, with a range of nozzles for dealing with different liquid viscosities.
Printing, Sealing & Assembly:
The tray film is now printed along with an option of printing a MARS Chart / Patient Information Sheet. The sheet tray film is
placed on top of the previously filled tray and placed together in the sealing unit. Pressing a single button instantly seals
every pod, ready for use. The sealed tray is now placed into a patient pack ready for despatch. (Storage options are available
from Biodose)
In the care home
Storage:
Once received from the pharmacy, individual patient packs can be stored in the optional Biodose Trolley in readiness for dispensing.
Administration:
Each Patient Pack contains a 28-pod tray, with individually removable tamper-evident medicine pots. The tray and pods are
clearly labelled and can be opened easily, however once opened, they cannot be resealed, providing extra security and
accountability. The pods can be used to take oral solids and liquids, without the need for medicine cups, thereby making
the entire process quick and easy.
