Compliance
Within all areas of patient medication compliance to prescribed regimes is becoming an issue to which healthcare professional are seeking a simple yet effective solution.
The cost of non-compliance is almost un quantifiable. Not taking medicines as prescribed has consequences not only for the individual in terms of therapeutic failure, but also for the wider society. For the individual, failure to take medication as prescribed may result in ill health, poorer quality of life, and reduced life expectancy. For the wider society, consequences include avoidable health care expenditure and the development of drug resistance. It is estimated that 12% of all hospital admissions in the UK are due to patients not taking the correct medication.
With the implementation of the Biodose system all these concerns will become a thing of the past. Not only will the medication be taken and the required time of the day and in the correct manner but the adherence to the programme will be consistent.
With the objective to support patients' adherence to medicinal therapy, a not-for-profit organization (Healthcare Compliance Packaging Council of Europe/HCPC-Europe) was set up between the pharmaceutical industry, the packaging industry and representatives of European patients organizations.
Biodose was recognised as the runner up for the HCPC – Europe’s Drug Compliance Packaging Design Award 2008 for a Convincing Solution for Enhancing Patient Compliance.
